Los Muñequitos de Matanzas at MASS MoCA

March 27th, 2011 by Applegate Inn

Jacob’s Pillow and MASS MoCA are collaborating to bring Los Muñequitos de Matanzas to Hunter Center at MASS MoCA on April 30 and May 1, 2011. Spend that weekend at our luxury Berkshires Bed and Breakfast, enjoying the beautiful outdoors and a fantastic performance.

Los Muñequitos de Matanzas is one of the most popular bands in Cuba. The 16 drummers, vocalists and dancers fill the stage with movement and music. It is difficult to remain still while watching and listening to them. People of all ages will enjoy this show – not surprising, since the performers include three generations from one family.

Los Muñequitos de Matanzas has not been in the United States since they were nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001. We are lucky to have them perform so close to our Lee MA Bed and Breakfast.

Fall Activities at Chesterwood

September 13th, 2010 by Applegate Inn

Chesterwood is the historic country home, studio and gardens of Daniel Chester French, one of the country’s foremost public sculptors. His creations are found from Boston to San Francisco, New York City to Florida. Chesterwood was designed by architect Henry Bacon, best known for his Lincoln Memorial. Daniel French and his family spent every summer at Chesterwood after the villa’s completion in 1900; its convenient location between New York and Boston made it easy for him to maintain contact with each city.

These days, Chesterwood is open to visitation from the end of May through Mid October. Visitors may stroll through the gardens, visit the studio and villa, and learn about the life and work of French in an on-going exhibition. In addition, Chesterwood offers art classes to the public – everything from weekly classes to weekend workshops.

Two up-coming activities at Chesterwood may be of interest to guests of our bed and breakfast Lenox.

Dining near Tanglewood

April 28th, 2009 by Applegate Inn

Applegate Inn Dining Room

The concierge service we offer at our Berkshires lodging is something unique to Applegate Inn. We know and love many of the great restaurants in the area, and enjoy helping our guests find the perfect dining experience. If you like Mediterranean food, we might send you to the charming Cafe Lucia where you will enjoy your food in an 1840s farmhouse. If you are hankering for a croque monsieur, the penultimate French sandwich, we’ll probably send you to Chez Nous in Lee. No matter what your preferences, it is our goal to ensure that you leave our Stockbridge MA hotel well fed. And of course, we hope you like the blueberry buckle and Baked Stuffed French Toast at the Applegate bed and breakfast.

The concierge at our Berkshires bed and breakfast can also direct you to the best place to stock your picnic basket when you are heading to Tanglewood. Opening night is two months away, and it is not too early to reserve your tickets for Diana Krall on the 4th of July, or plan your visit to our Berkshire b&b.

Berkshire Gardens

April 15th, 2009 by Applegate Inn

Spring is indeed coming to the Berkshires, and a great place to experience spring is at our Berkshires Bed and Breakfast. The days have been warming the earth and the flowers are starting to show their appreciation. The grounds of the Applegate Inn are a great place to witness the arrival of spring. We have some Berkshire b&b specials this time of year to help welcome the fine, if somewhat unpredictable, spring weather. While here, the Berkshire Botanical Garden is a great place to spend an afternoon. It is hosting a special day camp for children during the week of April 20 – 24 (spring break in this area); your whole family can find interesting things to do during the day, then come together in our parlor each evening to share your stories.

The Mount, Edith Wharton’s estate in Lenox, makes a pleasant day trip from our Berkshires lodging. The restored estate and lovely gardens open for the season in May, but there are a few special events this April for those who cannot wait. Edith Wharton and her husband Teddy had the house built in 1902, and the design was strongly influenced by Wharton’s 1897 book, The Decoration of Houses. Although the couple spent most of their time abroad, The Mount remains an important monument to an influential American author.
