The Berkshires will ring with the sweet strains of rock, jazz, and zydeco as performed by legendary talents, thanks to the recent Mahaiwe 2016 season additions: John Hiatt on May 6th, the Joshua Redman Quartet on June 26th, and Buckwheat Zydeco on August 20th.
John Hiatt at Mahaiwe
Friday, May 6th at 8pm – Tickets & Info
John Hiatt is a satirical storyteller, master lyricist, and astute singer-songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Iggy Pop, and Rosanne Cash, to name just a few. Hiatt’s songs often center on themes of redemption, relationships, aging, and living life on one’s own terms, with clever plot twists to keep the listener guessing as well as grooving.
Hiatt has a star on Nashville’s Walk of Fame, received the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and saluted at the Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards. The May 6th show will be John Hiatt’s debut appearance on the Mahaiwe stage.
Joshua Redman Quartet at Mahaiwe
Sunday, June 26th at 7pm – Tickets & Info
Acclaimed tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman returns to the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center for a lively evening of new compositions and jazz standards chosen specifically for his quartet: Aaron Goldberg on piano, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Gregory Hutchinson drumming. Eclectic, exciting, and imbued with multiple influences, the quartet translates these compositions through a lens of 1950s & 60s jazz styles.
A charismatic and Grammy-nominated musician, Joshua Redman is the son of jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman, who is known for his work in free jazz, both as a bandleader and as sideman with such giants as Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett. Joshua’s influences run the gamut from jazz, classical, rock, and soul to Indian, Indonesian, Middle-Eastern and African.
