Hancock Shaker VillageDo you love the Shaker aesthetic? If so, then you wont want to miss the annual Shaker auction at Hancock Shaker Village: Sept. 10, 2016!

Shaker furnishings are simple, distinctive, and timeless. They’ve been treasured since being “discovered” by the rest of the world in the 1930’s and 40’s. Where better to view and bid on authentic, handcrafted Shaker antiques than at a real Shaker village?

The Shaker auction held at Hancock Shaker Village is not an auction of this village’s artifacts. Instead, they’re antiques collected together from disparate sources. Most items are from private collections and estates. One can expect to see exquisite examples of classic Shaker furnishings, such as trestle tables, tilt chairs, Shaker textiles, and wooden boxes.

The Shaker Auction promises a good time but you should make the time to visit Hancock Shaker Village while you’re in the area, regardless.

Hancock Shaker Village, in Pittsfield, MA, was established in 1774, making it the third Shaker village in the U.S. The iconic round stone barn on the property is an architectural gem and the only Shaker barn of its kind.

Hancock opened as a living history museum in 1961 and is the largest Shaker museum on the east coast. The village consists of 20 historic buildings with extensive gardens. Visitors are treated to Shaker craft demonstrations and a large collection of Shaker artifacts.

Hancock Shaker Village is open daily, including holidays, from 10am to 5pm through October 30th, 2016. Enjoy a self-guided or guided tour for a closer look at the grounds. You’ll learn about the Shakers while visiting their meetinghouse, schoolhouse, round stone barn, cemetery, and more.

You’ll see historic breeds of livestock and marvel over the restored, 19th-century water system. Don’t miss a chance to eat Shaker inspired food at the Village Harvest Cafe or shop handcrafted items in the Village Store!
