Holidays at Hancock Shaker VillageGet into the holiday spirit this season with a visit to Hancock Shaker Village! See how Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were celebrated through numerous events from the famous, living museum. From late October through to a week before Christmas in December.

Hancock Shaker Village has been open to the public since 1961 but they usually close until after their big, fall harvest festival, mid October. This year, however, they’ve decided to share the way of the Shaker holidays by adding a number of events from Halloween to Christmas.

Many folks likely imagine an austere and severe group of people when they think of Shakers. They would likely be surprised to learn that the Shakers were some of the people who brought the Halloween and Christmas traditions to the United States. Back in 1790 when they arrived here, very few others dressed up for Halloween or made a big deal about Christmas – but the Shakers did!

Now you can see just what that must have been like by visiting Hancock Shaker Village this fall! The schedule includes everything from a Shaker Halloween dress-up, to a special Shaker harvest supper, and events depicting the Shaker Christmas.
