Get set for the Berkshire Theatre Group’s 2021 Outside Under the Tent spring concert series at the Colonial Theatre. 7 weekend concerts, May 1st to June 12th, in Pittsfield, MA.
There’s nothing like a springtime concert to blow out those winter blues, particularly after the year that we’ve all had! The Colonial Theatre’s 2021 spring concert series is an exciting collection of performances designed to be as safe as they are fun.
This year’s series includes Tom Rush, Chris Thile, KJ Denhert, both a Neil Young and Doobie Brothers tribute shows, and more.
As the “Outside Under the Tent” name implies, these shows are held outside, under a big tent, in the Colonial Theatre parking. Seating is General Admission and based both on party size and social distancing protocols.
This open-air, socially distanced arrangement road-tested late last summer with a production of the 1971 “Godspell” musical. The response was so positive that they extended the show’s run. A successful outdoor presentation of “Holiday Memories” at Stockbridge’s Unicorn Theater followed.
The Colonial Theatre
The Colonial Theatre is located at 111 South Street, Pittsfield, MA. This is just 15 minutes from our Berkshires bed and breakfast, Applegate Inn.
The Colonial is a historic theater, opening in 1903, and considered one of the country’s finest, intact turn-of-the-century theaters. It was designed by noted theater architects J. B. McElfatrick and son, responsible for hundreds of theaters around this time.
The Colonial is one of only a handful of McElfatrick-designed theaters still standing today. Architectural details include a classic proscenium arch, curved room elements, and articulated plaster detail throughout. Attending a show here is a real experience. Should you get a chance to peep inside, do!
The Colonial Theatre is part of the Berkshire Theatre Group, which also includes the Unicorn Theatre and the Fitzpatrick Main Stage, both in Stockbridge.
