Berkshire Museum’s Festival of Trees 2014

November 15th, 2014 by Corey A. Edwards

Berkshire Museum's Festival of Trees 2014Berkshire Museum’s annual Festival of Trees exhibit – on view from November 14th through January 4th, 2015 – will take you into the wild with this year’s theme “On Safari!”

The much-anticipated, 30th annual Festival of Trees – On Safari will feature creatively bedecked Christmas trees sponsored and created by local businesses, schools, and community organizations.

Festival of Trees is always a wonderfully fun exhibit with tree decorations and displays running the gamut from the expected to the outlandishly inventive. Sometimes the “tree” isn’t a tree at all but a wildly creative collection of items put together to resemble a tree!

One of the best parts of the Festival of Trees exhibit is the live music you can expect to be both surprised and soothed by, should you be on hand during a December weekend. The museum arranges for carolers, string quartets and the like to come in for unannounced, brief bursts of live, seasonal music. Such a great perk!

This year’s “On Safari” theme for Festival of Trees 2014 was inspired by an exhibition of National Geographic’s wildlife photography that will be on display at the Berkshire Museum at the same time: “Lions & Tigers & Bears: Through the Lens with National Geographic.” By focusing not just on these three animals’ iconic beauty but also their impact on human culture, the health of their ecosystem, and vice versa, “Lions & Tigers & Bears” is a profound combination of photographic beauty, visual storytelling, and natural science.

The annual Festival of Trees exhibit continues the tradition of being a popular crowd pleaser as well as a significant fundraiser for the Berkshire Museum every year, with the bulk of the collected proceeds going towards various educational programs that serve more than 17,000 every year.
