The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum in Lenox, MA is your ticket to the fun and exciting world of railroad history in the Berkshires – and don’t miss the chance to ride on the Hoosac Valley Service Train!
The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum (BSRM) is a fast track to the past, beginning at the historic and restored, 1903 Lenox Station.
Here you can explore Berkshires railway history through the museum’s historical and technical exhibits, the O-gauge model train display, and via a ride on the Yard Jitney!
The BSRM Yard Jitney is the museum’s shuttle train, composed of an early 20th century passenger car hooked to a vintage diesel-electric locomotive. Climbing aboard, you’ll enjoy a quick ride up to the BSRM rail yard where a guide will take you on a personalized tour of the museum’s railroad equipment collection.
Want to know how to run the engine of the Yard Jitney? Ask and, for a small fee, you can experience a cab ride with the engineer!
You’ll inspect a diesel-electric locomotive, get a good look at the engine room, see what it’s like to be a brakeman in a caboose cupola! Visit the Yokun Block Station, fitted with historic railroad fixtures. Modeled after a 1950’s era block station in the village of Housatonic, the Yokun Block Station features a working vintage railroad communication system.
Once you’ve had a chance to see all the exhibits at the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum and ridden the Yard Jitney, it’s time to check out the Hoosac Valley Service Train!
The Hoosac Valley Service Train operates on four miles of restored and upgraded track between Adams and North Adams, MA. A 50-minute, narrated, round trip ride through the beautiful Hoosac and Greylock mountain ranges, the Hoosac Valley Train departs from North Adams for an 8-mile round trip excursion aboard a 1955 Rail Diesel Car.
Dates and availability for the Hoosac Valley Service Train vary, so be sure to check the Hoosac Valley Service Train website for times and to reserve your tickets.
