November 14th, 2020 by Corey A. Edwards

Naumkeag Winterlights 2020The end of the year is fast approaching and one of our favorite holiday attractions is about to begin. Winterlights 2020 at Naumkeag is back, from November 27th to January 2nd in Stockbridge, MA.

The Gilded Age splendor of Naumkeag, with its magnificent landscaping and architecture, is lovely to behold no matter when you visit. Come the holidays, however, and the twinkling magic of Winterlights takes this already stunning, historic estate to new heights.

Joseph Hodges Choate (1832–1917), New York City attorney and ambassador to England, built Naumkeag as a summer estate in 1885. The family maintained their Gilded Age estate for nearly 75 years. In 1958, they bequeathed it in its entirety to The Trustees, a non-profit dedicated to preserving natural and historical places in Massachusetts.

The picturesque, Gilded Age “cottage” is famous for its terraced gardens and the stately 44-room mansion. People come from all over the world to tour the house and see iconic details like the the Moon Gate and the Blue Steps in person.

Best of all, our Berkshires bed and breakfast, Applegate Inn, is less than 10 minutes drive from Naumkeag!

Though the house and grounds typically close between October and April every year, they do reopen during this time for a few special events. One of the most popular being the annual Winterlights display.

Due to the necessity of social distancing and other safety precautions, a few details are different for the 2020 event.
