November 22nd, 2020 by Corey A. Edwards

NightWood at The Mount Edith Whartons House and GardensLooking for something fun and safe to do in the Berkshires this holiday season? Visit Edith Wharton’s house and gardens to experience NightWood at The Mount, 5 unique scenes of light, sound, and color. November 19th through January 3rd, 2020 in Stockbridge, MA.

2020 continues to be challenging, right up to the end of the year. Many of our traditional holiday events have either been seriously limited, gone virtual, or called off entirely. It is difficult to conceal a bright light, however, and the Berkshires continue to shine in bright holiday colors despite the pandemic.

Some Berkshires holiday traditions, like Winterlights at Naumkeag, are able to go on almost unchanged. Others, like Stockbridge Main Street At Christmas and Berkshire Museum’s Festival of Trees, have gotten creative and adapted.

Then there are new attractions like NightWood at The Mount.

NightWood at The Mount

NightWood at The Mount Edith Whartons House and GardensNightWood is an outdoor sound and light experience set against the backdrop of The Mount, Edith Wharton’s house and gardens.

Despite the timing, NightWood is more of an art event than a holiday one. 5 winter landscapes designed to immerse you in light, sound, and color. A trio of professional designers combined their talents in design, lighting, and composition to create the scenes.

Visitors to Nightwood follow a set, 3/4 of a mile long path, encountering 5 separate and unique scenes along the way. The path winds its way through the woods and gardens of The Mount, including both paved and unpaved pathways, stairways, and inclines.

NightWood is an outdoor event with potentially icy or muddy paths, so you’ll want to dress accordingly. All appropriate safety precautions are being taken, too – so you can relax and enjoy yourself. There will even be light snacks and hot drinks available after the tour.
